Youth Pheasant Hunt 2011

Twenty Six Youth participated in the 9th annual Youth Pheasant Hunt sponsored by PWHU.  They harvested thirty five pheasants, had their birds dressed and made ready for the freezer.  Not every hunter managed to bag a pheasant, but every hunter had a smile on their face after their hunt.  It was a thrill to watch the bird dogs work in the field and then freeze when they pointed the bird.  They were very appreciative of the opportunity to participate in a safe hunt behind very excellent bird dogs.
Each hunter received a portfolio containing a certificate of participation in the hunt, a picture of themselves with the bird dog, the dog handler, the mentor and the pheasants they harvested.  They also received a box call for turkey hunting that had been hand tuned by Mark Hoak of Avery Outdoors.  One lucky hunter received a free mount of his pheasant courtesy of Cliff Cessna Taxidermy.

A Safety Day was held at the All Seasons Trap & Skeet Club October 8th.  The group heard a safety talk and viewed a live demonstration of how the hunt would be conducted.  The weather was cold and wet but they also had an opportunity to enjoy shooting both trap and skeet afterwards.

Numerous hot dogs, hamburgers, soft drinks and coffee were consumed by the participants on both event days.  Nobody went away hungry.

A very big Thank You goes to the 135 volunteers and the “Big A” camp members that made the Safety Day and Hunt Day possible.  Also, the following sponsors contributed to the successful event:  All Seasons Trap & Skeet, Grice Gun Shop, Bob’s Army & Navy, Pa. Game Commission, C&S Logistics, Rowan’s Game Birds, Cessna Taxidermy, DuSan AmServe Ambulance, Ram Septic, Dominion Transmission, Minteer Management, LLC, Avery Outdoors, Lion Country Supply, Brookside Game Calls, Falls Creek Eagles Club, Sykesville Eagles Club, CW Graphics, Kenny Gray, Holly Greek, Mark Hoak and the “Big A” camp.
